White House Wants to Keep Gas Prices High

With the national average of gas prices hitting $3.65 a gallon, nearing $6 in some parts of the country, and poised to head even higher, America's families are wondering when the bleeding at the pump will stop. But for Secretary of Energy Stephen Chu, those steep prices aren't even a concern. In fact, he says his goal is not to get the price of gasoline to go down.

Chu delivered those stunning remarks in testimony before Congress yesterday. When Rep. Alan Nunnelee (R-Miss.) asked Chu whether it's his "overall goal to get our price" of gasoline lower, Chu said, "No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy."

As shocking as his remarks are, they shouldn't come as a surprise. Chu has a long record of advocating for higher gas prices. In 2008, he stated, "Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe." Last March, he reiterated his point in an interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace, noting that his focus is to ease the pain felt by his energy policies by forcing automakers to make more fuel-efficient automobiles. "What I'm doing since I became Secretary of Energy has been quite clear. What I have been doing is developing methods to take the pain out of high gas prices."

One of those methods is dumping taxpayer dollars into alternative energy projects like the Solyndra solar plant. Another is subsidizing the purchase of high-cost electric cars like the Chevy Volt to the tune of $7,500 per car (which the White House wants to increase to $10,000). In both cases, those methods aren't working. Solyndra went bankrupt because its product couldn't bear the weight of market pressures, and Chevy Volts aren't selling, even with taxpayer-funded rebates. What's the president's next plan? Harvesting "a bunch of algae" as a replacement for oil.

Meanwhile, the Obama Administration is seemingly doing everything it can to make paying for energy even more painful by refusing to open access to the country's oil and gas reserves and blocking new projects that would lead to the development of more energy in America. Case in point: the president's decision to say "no" to the Keystone XL pipeline, a project that would have delivered hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil from Canada to Texas refineries, while bringing thousands of jobs along with it.

Sensing impending political fallout from the high cost of gas, President Obama last week spoke on the subject and attempted to deflect blame for the pain. He said that there is no quick fix to high gas prices and the nation cannot drill its way out of the problem, but as Heritage's Nicolas Loris writes, the president ignored reality and dished out a series of half-truths. Among them, the president claimed oil production is its highest in eight years, that increasing oil production takes too long, and that oil is not enough. Loris writes that while production is up on private lands, unrealized production on federal lands and offshore could have yielded even more output, increasing supply and driving down costs. If the president had said "yes" to Keystone, oil could have reach the market quickly. And as for the president's push for alternative energy, those sources simply cannot stand the test of the market.

There are steps the president and Congress can and should take today to bring down the cost of energy. Namely, end the de facto moratorium on drilling, open offshore areas that are off-limits to drilling, place a 270-day limit on environmental reviews for energy projects on federal lands, remove regulatory delays, and approve Keystone.

As Loris writes, "The market would respond if Congress and the Obama Administration allowed it to work." But Secretary Chu and the Obama Administration are evidently not interested in market-based reforms that bring down the cost of energy. Instead, they're bent on keeping energy costs high in order to placate the environmental left. And now Americans are paying the price.

Gun Control Allowed the Chardon High School Shootings

Well, the gun control idiots win another one. In their premise that the forbidding of legal gun carry on school campuses will prevent violence to students, they provided another opportunity for another shooting incident in which students have been injured. A malcontent started shooting at 7:30 this morning, Monday, February 27, with no fear of being challenged by anyone.

While the news is somewhat scarce, the following seems to be apparent. An unnamed student last night broadcast his intent to bring a weapon to school today on the Internet. This message was read by numerous people, students included. He then walked into Chardon High School this morning and opened fire injuring at least four other students. At the time of this writing the condition of the wounded has not been defined but reports indicate that they have been transported to medical facilities for treatment.

This incident, as did those of other school shootings, raises problems which authorities, school, law enforcement, and government, as well as parents, have failed to recognize, problems which are not discussed for political reasons rather than reasons of public safety, for reasons which wholly political.

First is the Second Amendment issue, the right of the people to have guns, to carry and use them in the protection of their liberty. The constitution gives the American citizen the right not only to own a firearm but to carry it and use it when threatened by anybody. Along with this right comes the responsibility to provide protection to one's family, friends, and other citizens in time of danger. Surprisingly, the Constitution of the State of Ohio provides the same thing.

So why is this important and how does it fit into the Chardon High School shootings? What would have been the result if there had been even one armed person in the high school at 7:30 this morning in the area where the shootings took place? Would the casualty rate be as high as it was? Would it even have taken place? Obviously we'll never know the answer to that, but we do know this - in every instance where there has been a criminal attack, the criminal was the only one present with a gun, or so he thought. It is strange isn't it, that places at which a large number of armed people are present, are not usually brought under attack by stray gunmen. People who want to create mayhem with firearms seldom choose places frequented by others who are armed and competent to protect themselves.

The argument is used that the legally armed citizen is not need in these situations as we have trained law enforcement officers who can handle these situations. I have the greatest respect of law enforcement professionals and would feel very secure if they were on site when a shooting went down, but that is seldom the case. Police officials do not prevent crime, such as happened at Chardon, rather they clean up the mess after it is over. This is not a default towards their ability or dedication, merely a statement of fact.

Had someone legally armed been present could this shooting have be avoided? Possibly. But with no-one present who could have met the shooter's force with force, could it have been avoided? That answer is obvious. With at least four people wounded it is obvious that not only it couldn't be avoided, but it wasn't.

And what about that Internet message? Why was this not reported? It was read. What sort of responsibility was tossed aside by those who read it? Why was it not reported by those students, and others, who read it. Did student's parents have a clue what their children were reading on Facebook, or did they even care? Did the school administrators hear of the threat, and if they did, what did they do about it? With 1,100 students, their parents, school employees, and who knows who else had access to postings, how is it possible that the warning wasn't seen and acted upon? It is called responsibility to do something in a case like this, but responsibility failed completely once again.

So why the stupidity against firearms in schools, government buildings, at home? For the very reason that the Second Amendment was enacted in the first place, to protect ourselves from the government at all levels. Restrict gun ownership to the citizen and you restrict his liberty. Take away the guns from the citizen and you restrict his freedom. Prohibit the citizen from carrying guns and you prohibit his freedom. Take away the right of the citizen to defend himself and you take away his very life.

There is a lesson to be learned from the Chardon High School Shooting but government won't learn it. Guns don't kill people. It's the guy who holds and fires the gun who does. A lone gunman bent on rape, murder, robbery, or as in this case, shooting up another school, is hesitant to attack any place at which there may be others who are armed.

Chardon High School students were shot this morning because those in power believe the insanity that if the good guys are prohibited to carry weapons the rest of us will be safe and secure. Another example that not idiots are politicians, but all politicians, well, maybe I shouldn't go there.

BUCHANAN TO OBAMA

Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America .. Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation.. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.... This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.. Jeremiah Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ' 60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black applicants over white applicants. Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated their time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.


We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude??

Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks. Let him go to Altoona ? And Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids...? Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America ? Is it really white America 's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black community itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard ad nauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena . And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago. This needs to be passed around because, this is a message everyone needs to hear!!!

Obama Tax Reduction Bill Fraud

Well, they’re at it again. The Congress is going to vote on extending the reduction of payroll tax (Social Security Tax) used to pay for Social Security, supposedly as a means for increasing the economy. Wonderful. They have used this Ponzi scheme in the past and the reduction hasn’t made any difference. The passage of this so called reduction, lowering of the Social Security tax from 6.2% to 4.2%, does nothing more than increase the debt that Obama’s gang has dumped on the American people.

Any businessman or homemaker knows the utter stupidity of this move. For those who don’t have a clue about finances, business operations, or a family budget, which includes members of Congress, the White House, the Federal Reserve, Republicans, Democrats, the Treasury Department, and most high school and college graduates of recent years, I suggest the following.

All financial operations, be they for home, business, or government, operate with two opposing forces, income and expense.

Expense, that’s the money paid out to keep the operation going, is divided into two types of payments, fixed and variable

Fixed expenses do not depend on consumption of a good or service. A fixed expense is a cost which does not change, or changes very slightly. They are usually paid on a regular basis such as week to week, month to month, or year to year. Usual household fixed expenses are mortgage or rent payments, car payments, real-estate taxes, insurance payments, and the like.

Variable expenses change depending on your consumption of a good or service. A variable expense is a cost that changes significantly from period to period, such as week to week, month to month, quarter to quarter or year to year. Typical household variable expenses are household maintenance expenses such as painting or yard care, general expenses such as clothing, groceries, and car maintenance and fuel, and utilities such as electricity, gas and water.

It’s simple. We have expenses, we have income. We subtract our expenses from our income and if there is any left over, we’re ahead. If it comes out even, we’re okay. If there are more expenses than we have income, we’re in trouble. The same thing, incidentally, applies to governments but they don’t understand it.

Take a trip to la-la-land, called by some Washington, D.C., home of the politician, those people who, generally, aren’t financially smart enough to hold a real job where they would be paid for their ability to produce something of value. As a result, they increase expenses, faster then they can collect income from taxation.

In the past three years, this hasn’t been a problem to them. This year it is a problem as it is an election year. And they want to get reelected. Not getting reelected and being forced to actually work for a living, strikes such terror to them that they become brain dead and lose all sense of reality. Even worse, if not reelected, they will have to live under the insane laws they have enacted in the past.

They realize two things. They can’t pay the bills and they are worried that the overtaxed populace will catch on to their idiotic spending and inevitable tax increases business and individuals. They need to fool the folks into believing that they are getting financial help from the government in the form of decreased taxes.

“Hey,” they say. “We’re going to save you money on your taxes, therefore, you will be able to spend more, and the economy will be saved.” They won’t tell you that the national debt, what we owe, is larger than the national gross product, the total amount of goods and services our economy is producing. (The United States owes 15.5 trillion dollars, an expense, and takes in 2.3 trillion dollars in taxes, income. The national gross product is 15 trillion dollars.)

One of the hottest issues this year is Social Security. It is very visible as a Social Security tax deduction is taken out of everybody’s paycheck, except the Congress and Obama’s mob who excused themselves from having Social Security.

Their solution to make them look good is to decrease the amount people pay into Social Security from 6.5-percent to 4.5-percent. If you are making $50,000 a year, your saving is only $1,000 but you still have to pay $2,250. Wow! This is going to make a huge difference in the economy and solve a working man’s financial problems. Or will it?

Social Security is going broke. It was on a sound financial basis until President Lyndon Johnson stole money from the Social Security Trust Fund for the Vietnam war, Medicare and Medicaid, and other welfare schemes. Today most of the Social Security payments are being taken from a combination of the Social Security Tax and Income Tax.

Social Security payments are a fixed expense and paid on a monthly basis. It is a fixed expense by law, one which Obama hasn’t yet gotten around to changing by another executive order. The loss to the Social Security Fund due to the 2-percent drop in the tax to employed people will amount to 155-billion dollars a year. Think about it. One-hundred-fifty-five billion dollars which will have to be made up from some other source. More borrowing? Increases in taxes? Remember that Social Security has to be paid. No choice.

The point is that the 155 billion has to come from somewhere. They won’t tell us where it’s coming from. The politicians will lie to you in an attempt to make you believe they are helping you. The big lie is that the two-percent decrease in the Social Security tax is going to make life better by allowing you to spend more. A second big lie is that by collecting less money for Social Security will somehow cure the Social Security deficit. A third lie is that collecting less Social Security tax will cure the overall fiscal crisis. It just isn’t going to happen.

It is time to stop paying able-bodied people for not working. Two years of unemployment benefits is criminal.

It’s time to stop foreign aid to countries who are our enemies, including Muslim countries, China, North Vietnam, and South American countries which are socialist and communistic.

It’s time to shut down the borders and keep the wetbacks down south where they belong.

It’s time to send the illegal Mexicans, Guatemalans, Haitians, and other Latino freeloaders back to where they came from.

It’s time for unions to take some responsibility for the state of the economy instead of just its money.

Most and foremost it’s time to get rid of the dunderheads in Washington, D.C., from Obama, Pelosi, Holder, and the rest of that criminal element, as well as the Congress, be they Republicans or Democrats. Voting for any increase in spending should be an automatic veto to their election.

It is impossible to reduce the debt without reducing spending. No amount of smoke and mirrors, lies, pronouncements or whining, will ever change that fact! We are being dragged into national bankruptcy by asinine spending bills designed to bring our economy down.

We have lost much of the freedom and liberty we had only live years ago. We won’t be able to get it back. Wake up! Do something. Prevent losing all our liberty, freedom, possessions, and livelihood. Wake up. Get involved.

Obama Goals Destroying The American Republic

Are you better off than you were when Obama took office three years ago? If you are on welfare, a Muslim, in the United States illegally, on food stamps, a union worker at General Motors or Chrysler, a government employee, a terrorist, a drug dealer, too lazy to work, believe religion should be controlled by the government, approve the murder of infants and the yet unborn is a good thing, believe you are not smart enough to control your own life, believe the United States Constitution is worthless and not worth keeping, believe your slavery is the best plan for the future, think concern for the welfare of animals is more important than freedom and liberty for humans, then it has been a good three years for you.

On the other hand, if you believe in responsibility, want to make a life for yourself, love freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, want to control your own destiny, believe morality is a good thing, don’t want to be dependent on the government for your total existence, feel that if you take the risks in life that you deserve the reward, then it’s been a pretty lousy three years.

The problem is the people of the United States are being sold a bill of goods by the Obama politicians designed to put them into slavery and poverty, from which, this time, there will be no emancipation. It is strange that the fight to remove slavery from the United States, to free the Negro, to open opportunity to all men, once the dream of Martin Luther King, has, by Obama government edicts, been turned around. Government policies are destroying the ability of the people to better themselves. The Obama cartel has made it impossible for those who need it most, the poor and the middle class, to be become little more than slaves to Obama’s Communistic goals.

Consider the food stamp program. Granted, there are people who are not able to provide food for themselves, but when 46 million people in the United States, that’s one out of every seven, are receiving food stamps, supposedly because of their inability to work and take care of their own needs, there should be concern.

Unemployment, which according to government press releases, stands at 8.7%, a figure which only takes into account those who are on the unemployment dole and receiving money from the government. There is another 8-plus percent, which is not reported to the public, who have exceeded the current 99 week limitation for government unemployment money. Let’s get that straight. Almost nine percent of the available work force is getting paid not to work while another 8% are receiving nothing.

If you are at or below the poverty level, you qualify for a number of other goodies which include free cell phones, free medical care, free house repairs, free college or trade school education, free food bank groceries. It goes on and on.

If you are on drugs, are an alcoholic, have a nasty personality, you are eligible for government financial aid under SSI.

The government pays non-productive people, including illegal aliens, to the point where those on the government dole readily admit that it is more profitable for them to not work as, should they get a job, their take home pay will be less than what the tax paying public is giving them to remain idle. Remember that everything the government spends comes from taxes extorted from those who do work.

The government, under the direction of the Obama mob, has a single aim, to destroy the Union, take away our liberty, our freedom, and our Constitution, and replace it with a Communistic regime. The only way they can succeed is by turning the United States into a nation of slaves dependent on the government for their very existence.

Paying people not to work, making them rely on the government for their existence, is the first step. The result will be a total takeover of industry, the first step already taken with the government confiscation of Chrysler and General Motors. On-going efforts to destroy the financial system of the country by regulating the country’s banks out of existence, as shown by the housing mortgage disaster.

Obama’s plan is working. By paying off those without the ambition and drive to fend for themselves, by destroying self-reliance and responsibility, he is pulling us into a slavery deeper and more heinous than that ever experienced in the pre-Civil War South.

Forcing dependence of the citizen on the government is a concept which Americans fail to understand. Paying individuals for not working at the expense of those who provide jobs and those who work those jobs through the oppressive powers of government, serves no purpose other than to increase the possibility of the installation of a the fascist regime which is growing under the Obama regime. Its purpose is to increase dependence of Americans on the government in hopes of surviving a crumbling economy, the demise of which can be traced back to the Senate days of Obama and his cohorts.

If there is any question as to the inefficiency of government control of society, look at the situation of the American Indian. For over a century the government has had the self-assumed responsibility for their welfare, and the government has failed in its responsibility. Take a trip to the West. Visit the reservations. Talk to the Indians. It will be an eye-opening condemnation of government administration.

It will take decades to repair the damage the Obama clique has created. The United States republic is dying, near death. It has to be stopped now or we lose all, forever.

Obama and his accomplices, Pelosi, Reed, Democrats in general, are leading the effort to turn the United States into a Communist state, and they are succeeding. Unfortunately they are being aided by the so-called Republicans who have yet to stand up against the Obama agenda. It has to stop and that depends on the American voter.

Citizens, get involved. Protect your rights, your freedoms, your property, your life. Get rid of the Obama mob. What they have accomplished in three years cannot be easily undone. Prevent them from taking all our liberties. Get involved.

Class Warfare At Its Best

I have never heard this said as simply or as well. Class war at its best.

The folks who are getting the free stuff don't like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.

And, the folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop.

And the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!

Now, the people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff have told the people who are receiving the free stuff that the people who are paying for the free stuff are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.

So the people who are getting the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff and giving them the free stuff in the first place.

We have let the free stuff giving go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff.

Now understand this. All great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded. The reason? The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.

The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 231 years ago. The number of people now getting free stuff outnumbers the people paying for the free stuff. We have one chance to change that in 2012. Failure to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

Obama Sticks It To BP And All Of Us

Want to know why gasoline prices are high? The following isn't the only reason, of course, but it sure won't help. It was reported today that:

BP is reportedly in negotiations with U.S. officials to settle pollution claims related to the Deepwater Horizon spill. The government is seeking fines of up to $4,300 for each of the 4.1M barrels spilled, which could leave BP liable for as much as $17.6B. BP is also said to be in settlement talks with other firms tied to the disaster.

Let's face it. BP had a problem which made the national news, the world news as well. But in the last analysis, the lasting damage was minimal, its results lasting difficult to find. Was it negligence? To some degree. Was it life threatening to masses of people, wildlife, and the ecology? To some degree. Was it the worse disaster the country has seen? Not by a long shot. Mount Saint Helen's created more pollution and destruction over a wider area than the BP oil spill no matter what criteria you use. That explosion was so destructive that it was beyond the imagination of even the government to come up with a solution.

But the BP spill did serve a major purpose of the Obama regime. It gave them a way to attack the economy of the United States. Claiming a major ecological disaster, which it was not, the Obama group headed by the EPA, shut down oil exploration, drilling, production, and increased unemployment, gasoline and diesel oil prices, reduced United States oil production, and, in the end, increased sales and profits to oil producers of nations in the Near East and South America. In a show of total ignorance, or if not that, another example of Obama's disregard of the welfare of the United States citizen, he increased the US's dependence on foreign oil to run our economy.

The BP oil spill was, perhaps, unavoidable. There was, and still is, talk of poor engineering, faulty construction, improperly made parts and components, and this may be true in part or in whole. The equipment problems have been solved. The ecological problems have been solved. Reparations by BP to those who suffered loss have been made. The problem, small in retrospect, has been resolved. Except for the retribution the Obama mob wants to serve on BP.

The problem, as usual, is that the end result of this government extortion against BP will cost the United States citizen plenty in the long run. Obama's answer to future oil spills was to cancel the Keystone pipeline. Huh. Did I hear correctly that Obama has a friend in the oil trucking business?

Which brings us to the world's greatest lie - Hi. I'm from the government and I'm here to help yu'.

Progressive Tax Explained In Beer

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100...

If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this...

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do..

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve ball.
"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20". Drinks for the ten men would now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men? How could they divide the $20 windfall so
that everyone would get his fair share?

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.

So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by a higher percentage the poorer he was, to follow the principle of the tax system they had been using, and he proceeded to work out the amounts he suggested that each should now pay.

And so the fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% saving).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% saving).
The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% saving).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% saving).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% saving).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% saving).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But, once outside the bar, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20 saving," declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,"but he got $10!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar too. It's unfair that he got ten times more benefit than me!"

"That's true!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back, when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had their beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and government ministers, is how our tax system works.

The people who already pay the highest taxes will naturally get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore.

In fact, they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Holder Adopts “Sergeant Shultze Defense” on Fast & Furious

Appropriately, it’s Groundhog Day.

Because Attorney General Eric Holder has just testified that he spent another year hiding in a hole, oblivious to what was going on in his department or even what was in his inbox.

In testimony before Darrell Issa’s Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Holder’s defense was -- in the words of one DEMOCRAT -- the “Sergeant Schultz defense”: “I know nooothing!”

This, notwithstanding the fact that there were no fewer than seven memoranda sent to Holder (as early as July, 2010) briefing him on the Fast and Furious Operation, and the fact that his department was intentionally allowing guns to go across the border to Mexican drug cartels.

Those guns have already resulted in the deaths of over 300 Mexican nationals, in addition to U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry.

Yet, Holder smugly asserted that he didn’t have time to read memoranda forwarded to him by his subordinates detailing criminal conduct by his department under his watch. (Never mind Holder’s assertion today that his management style was one that is “hands on.”)

Which leads to this question: Could a hedge fund manager escape culpability by arguing that he didn’t read letters from his subordinates or attorneys warning him of criminal misconduct?

And another thing: What was Eric Holder doing that was so important that the deaths of 300 people didn’t warrant any of his “precious” time?

Let Holder explain to the families of the dead that their lives were trivial because he was so busy promulgating illegal regulations governing multiple gun sales reporting, unlawfully banning shotgun importation, and unconstitutionally justifying non-recess recess appointments.

Holder protested that questioners were “disrespecting” his office. But Holder has dragged his office and his department into the cesspool. The proper response to him is: “Disrespect? What about 300 murdered Mexicans?” It is time for him to go.
